Gallery: Philmore CM-40 amplified hand mike

The Turner M+2U hand mic has acquired a cult-like following, at least based on eBay prices.  CBers seem to love them, enough to pay $50 and up for a nice example.

I was surprised to find this brand new lookalike made by Philmore offered, and if imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, the folks in Cedar Rapids should feel good.   The obvious difference is in the use of a slide pot, and internally the preamp is built on a small PCB rather than a larger one that scatters the parts around the interior of the housing like the Tuner does.  (I forgot to take a pic when I had it open but will do so in the future).  It uses the same oddball 7.5 volt battery, which I made a substitute for using five "button cells" and a heat-shrink housing.    Works and sounds great!

Now what plug to put on it...decisions decisions...

Oh by the way - if you look closely in the pic of the back you can see a five-letter word in the lower right corner...the Turner doesn't have that!
