Gallery: Heathkit Transistor Receiver model U.J.R.-1

This little radio came via eBay - it was only sold in the UK by Daystrom Ltd, the Heathkit equivalent there.   It's a one-transistor regenerative set (note the control is labeled "Reaction" instead of "Regeneration" as it would be in the US.   There are two bands for medium and longwave and a pretty husky ferrite antenna, so I'll bet it was able to pick up the very powerful longwave BBC service without much if any external antenna.

The batteries fit in the back half of the bakelite case - the battery wires are snipped off but from online pics it used a type P40, 4.5 volt battery made by Drydex.

There's some information about this cool little radio on the internet, including the photo of the manual that I include here.   I don't have the manual but I know what it looks like!
