Tension between Russia and Ukraine are high as Russian has begun putting troops on the border between the two countries. But shortwave radio has been producing some interesting activity on what’s known as “the buzzer.” The buzzer was named after it’s repetitive tone and is officially known as UVB-76 operating on 4.625 USB.
Since the first World War countries around the world have transmitted coded messages over HF radio and UVB-76 is a Russian numbers station located near Moscow. It’s long been thought its purpose is to send coded messages to Russian military asset but now shortwave listeners have been hearing all kinds of interesting things on the 4.625 USB and also SEEING them via the SonicPhoto software that generates images on SDR waterfall displays.

Hearing reports of The Buzzer being hacked after the Russian invasion, I thought I'd bring up a Kiwi SDR to have a listen for myself. But that's not always possible due to "blocked spectrum":
